Molly Reviews: Mistborn by Brandon Sanderson

Title: Mistborn: The Final Empire
Author: Brandon Sanderson
Pages: 541
Publishing Company: Tor Books
Publication Date: July 25, 2006
ISBN: 076531178X
My Rating:
Synopsis: In a world where ash falls from the sky, and mist dominates the night, an evil cloaks the land and stifles all life. The future of the empire rests on the shoulders of a troublemaker and his young apprentice. Together, can they fill the world with color once more?

Review: Thank God there is a sequel. This book was absolutely amazing I need to read more and know what happens next. I'm so glad that I decided to expand my dealings with high fantasy by reading this book.
I love the characters. I love the setting. I love the magic. I love this book.
Brandon Sanderson is an amazing author. I always find it so fascinating how people come up with these worlds with magic and backstories and different settings and whatnot. Sanderson is able to create a riveting world that's hold so many different characters and at least two types of magic. The Final Empire is not as beautiful as it once was due to the ash that falls from the sky. The plant life is no longer green and people don't generally know what flowers are. There are also so many different creatures that frighten others and different magic that people can use. Every bit of this long book was important to really make you feel like you are part of the story which is something that I always look for when I read fantasy.
The characters were constantly growing and changing throughout the book. Watching Vin start to become a real person and start to trust and care about others was fantastic and really made me feel for her. I loved how her romance with Elend wasn't the focal point of the story, but just a mere layer. Although I do love Vin, Sazed was probably my favorite character. I thought that Sazed was hilarious and he was a great caretaker for Vin. Kelsier is also high on the list of favorite characters because he was such a good father figure for Vin and he was just an awesome character.
If there is one thing I'm excited for, it's reading the sequel!!! I would definitely reommend reading this book, especially if you want to read more high fantasy.

Hope you all enjoyed! Talk to you soon.

Molly

Molly Reviews: The Sea of Monsters

Title: The Sea of Monsters
Author: Rick Riordan
Pages: 288
Publishing Company: Disney Hyperion Books
Publication Date: April 1, 2006
ISBN: 1423103343
My Rating:
Synopsis: Percy Jackson’s seventh-grade year has been surprisingly quiet. Not a single monster has set foot on his New York prep-school campus. But when an innocent game of dodgeball among Percy and his classmates turns into a death match against an ugly gang of cannibal giants, things get . . . well, ugly. And the unexpected arrival of Percy’s friend Annabeth brings more bad news: the magical borders that protect Camp Half-Blood have been poisoned by a mysterious enemy, and unless a cure is found, the only safe haven for demigods will be destroyed.

In this fresh, funny, and hugely anticipated follow up to The Lightning Thief, Percy and his friends must journey into the Sea of Monsters to save their beloved camp. But first, Percy will discover a stunning new secret about his family—one that makes him question whether being claimed as Poseidon’s son is an honor or simply a cruel joke.

Review: Well, kids, I finally finished this one. I feel very accomplished since I've finished reading both A Game of Thrones and now The Sea of Monsters. As some of you know, I've been trying to finish reading these books for a while but I was in such a reading slump for such along time, it never really happened. Well, I finally finished this one and it was so good I don't really know why it took me so long.
I read part of the Percy Jackson series before but I wanted to reread some of the books before finishing it because I had read them such a long time ago. I did, however, see the movie and I thought the movie was pretty good. Then I reread this book and noticed all of the awesome stuff those losers left out of it. Sea of Monsters was a great sequel in that it kept with the same humor and was just as exciting as the first novel. The reader finds out a lot more in this book such as the prophecy and we learn about who Thalia is and we're left with a HUGE cliffhanger at the end. PJO has wormed it's way back into my heart and it's definitely one of my favorite series.
I personally love Rick Riordan's writing style. It's very funny and even though it's geared toward a middle grade audience, I find that it will please people of all ages. He has a very sarcastic sense of humor which is appealing to me and it's written in the sense the Percy is talking to you more than writing a formal paper.
In the end, I enjoyed this book immensely and I can't wait to pick up The Titan's Curse.

I'll talk to all of you soon!

Molly's Reading Challenges!

Hey guys!
So, this year I'm planning on doing quite a few reading challenges. I think that by giving myself these challenges, I'll read a lot more because these challenges give me some leeway in what I can read. Two of these challenges I'm hoping to finish this year and one of them will probably take a bit longer.

My first challenge is my Goodreads book challenge. I'm planning on reading at least 25 books this year and I think I'm off to a good start. I own so many books and I would love to read a good chunk of them this year. This is the challenge that I want to finish the most so if I don't finish the other two I won't be too upset.

The other challenge I might finish this year is the PopSugar 2015 Reading Challenge. I know a bunch of people are doing this challenge and I think it would be a lot of fun. I've already been able to cross two things off the list and I'm looking for more books that will fit the criteria for the challenge. You can find the challenge here. I hope some other people do it too so that we can talk about it and help each other through it! :)

The final challenge that I'm starting this year is the Rory Gilmore book challenge. I have just recently started watching Gilmore Girls and I am LOVING it. The show is so funny and I love Rory. I found the list of all the books she references on the show and it's made up of a lot of classics so I figure I may as well read most of them. You can find the list all over the internet but here's the list that I've been referencing.

I'll be making a page on the blog to show how I'm doing so be on the lookout for that in the next week or so. :)
I'll talk to everyone soon! I hope you have a great day!

Molly Reviews: A Game of Thrones by George RR Martin

Title: A Game of Thrones
Author: George RR Martin
Pages: 694
Publishing Company: Bantam Books
Publication Date: August 6, 1996
ISBN: 0553386794
My Rating:
Synopsis:Long ago, in a time forgotten, a preternatural event threw the seasons out of balance. In a land where summers can last decades and winters a lifetime, trouble is brewing. The cold is returning, and in the frozen wastes to the north of Winterfell, sinister and supernatural forces are massing beyond the kingdom’s protective Wall. At the center of the conflict lie the Starks of Winterfell, a family as harsh and unyielding as the land they were born to. Sweeping from a land of brutal cold to a distant summertime kingdom of epicurean plenty, here is a tale of lords and ladies, soldiers and sorcerers, assassins and bastards, who come together in a time of grim omens.

Here an enigmatic band of warriors bear swords of no human metal; a tribe of fierce wildlings carry men off into madness; a cruel young dragon prince barters his sister to win back his throne; and a determined woman undertakes the most treacherous of journeys. Amid plots and counterplots, tragedy and betrayal, victory and terror, the fate of the Starks, their allies, and their enemies hangs perilously in the balance, as each endeavors to win that deadliest of conflicts: the game of thrones.

Review: I DID IT! I FINISHED IT I FINALLY READ IT! If you've been following this blog for the past couple of months, you would know that I've been trying to finish this book for a while. That being said, it was amazing. George RR Martin is FANTASTIC. I was entranced by this world that he created and I cannot wait until I can get my hands on the next book.
Martin did a great job with building the world and describing each of the characters. Each of the characters is amazingly unique and each of their stories is incredible. He made an excellent decision in having the book be told through several different points of view because I feel like if it was just the same narrator the whole time, I would have gotten bored with it very quickly. My favorite characters were probably Bran, Jon, and Daenarys.
Westeros is a world that I kind of wish was real. I could do without all of the gory death and losing everyone that I loved but I think it would be pretty cool to live with some dragons. Also, what about the fashion? Sansa really knows her stuff guys. George RR Martin's descriptions of the setting brought everything to life for me and made me feel like I was really there in the story.
I really recommend this series especially if you love high fantasy. This book was exactly what I needed and I finally got out of my reading slump.
I hope you all have a great day and I'll talk to you guys soon!

Molly

Top 10 Most Anticipated Debut Novels

Hello everyone!
It's Molly here and today I have this week's Top 10 Tuesday. This week we'll be talking about the top 10 debut novels I'm looking forward to reading in 2015. I'm really looking forward to picking up some of these debuts and I hope they're as good as they sound!

1. Even When You Lie to Me by Jessica Alcott
This book is about a bookworm with a little bit of a forbidden romance in the mix. The teacher/student relationship seems like it will be an interesting one with a lot of truths about the boundaries of romantic relationships. Y
ou can find this one on shelves on June 9, 2015.

2. More Happy Than Not by Adam Silvera
Adam Silvera writes about some gritty topics in this debut release. There's talk about suicide as well as gay romance. I am personally looking forward to this book because I think that these topics are extremely important and deserve to be talked about. This debut drops on June 16, 2015.

3. City of Savages by Lee Kelly
City of Savages is written inside of a POW camp in one of America's most treasured cities, New York. Written during a terrible war, two sisters go around the city trying to es
cape the Red Allies while they are simultaneously being torn apart by a love triangle. I'm excited to read this book on it's release date, February 3, 2015.

4. The Storyspinner by Becky Wallace
Lost long princesses and mysterious deaths were enough for me to be entranced by this title. This seems like the typical cookie cutter story that everyone needs every once in a while. You'll see this cover in bookstores on March 3, 2015.

5. Under a Painted Sky by Stacey Lee
I love me some good old historical fiction! This is the story of a friendship between a slave and a runaway musician. This books seems so heartwarming and I'm definitely going to be picking it up on March 17, 2015.

6. Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard
This books won't be released until February 10, but I've already heard TONS of hype about it. The world seems really interesting and it reminds me a lot of some of my favorite books. I'm excited to dive into this fantasy novel very soon.

7. The Witch Hunter byVirginia Boecker
I'm probably the most excited for this book. The Witch Hunter is described as having the best parts of Graceling and the best parts of Game of Thrones which makes me SUPER pumped. The fact that a witch h
unter actually has to team up with her enemy to clear her name sounds so intriguing. I can't wait to get this one on June 2, 2015.

8. Vendetta by Catherine Doyle
When I first read the synopsis for this book I immediately thought of Romeo and Juliet. There's a forbidden romance and what sounds like a mafia so this book is bound to be awesome. Vendetta is already in bookstores! It came out on January 1, 2015.

9. Tiny Pretty Things by Sona Charaipotra
This seems like such a dramatic book. Charaipotra writes her debut novel about ballet and is releasing it just in time to read it on the beach (May 26, 2015). The way the book is described seriously reminds me of the books The Clique and Private. It sounds right up my alley and I can't wait to pick it up!

10. Valiant by Sarah McGuire
If there is one thing you need to know about me, it's that I LOVE fairytale retellings. Valiant is a retelling of the tale "The Brave Little Tailor" and it has a kick-ass female lead. Saville is a clever character who is able to save her village from some nasty giants. The release date for this tale is June 9, 2015.

That's all for this Tuesday! I'll see you soon hopefully with some reviews. I really can't wait for some of these titles. I'm really looking forward to what this year is going to bring! Talk to you guys later!

Love,
Molly
